By questioning the role given to me, the position in which I am free to create a work of art in public space, where it acts in synergy with an “accidental” audience, I am also questioning my role of power. To which positions is the artist entitled (or not)? Is the artistic responsibility left out if one consciously manipulates the surroundings one works in? What happens when we put up a border in that surrounding, if we break someone’s daily routine, someone’s flow, just because we can? By putting up a wall on the running track I wish to question all of these positions. The wall is a kind of a simulacrum of the social reality. The curtailing of freedom and the imposing of borders becomes an everyday occurrence in which there is no reaction to them. Will we react when the border becomes real and solid?
